Today marks the inauguration of Canada's National Holocaust Monument. Designed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, the Monument features a series of six large-scale, black and white photographs by Edward Burtynsky of specific Holocaust sites. The poignant and haunting images were transferred to the Monument walls using a Photorealistic mural technique with specially formulated paint.
"These landscapes and what remains of the structures upon them serve to mark and memorialize one of the darkest periods in human civilization. Although over seventy years have passed, the remnants of this chapter in history speak with potent relevancy for all time." - Edward Burtynsky
