The Seoul Review on Jungjin Lee: VOICE "Poetry in Photos"

The Seoul

In the artist’s latest solo exhibition “Jungjin Lee: Voice,” the audience discovers how the artist has brilliantly developed the process, fusing traditional aesthetics with 21st-century techniques.

Jungjin has been fascinated by the American desert since she started her America Desert series from 1990. She reflects her mind being in it, and the subject has gradually become wider from deserts to oceans, plains, mountains, and forests. In the show, sublime images of the American West which were taken from 2018 to 2019  are presented along with previously taken deserts images.

To her longtime fans, her new way of print affects the character would be a point to check. After printing an image on hand-emulsified cotton or mulberry paper, the artist re-photographs the work, altering its finish using digital technological processes. In this way, she still preserves her unique style in a distinct high contrast image with a tactile quality.
