Pnuematic Capillerator II, 2001

Mark Osterman is an artist-teacher, performer and historian. Since 1999, he has been the Photographic Process Historian at George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film in Rochester, NY.  Known internationally for his knowledge of historic processes, many of Osterman’s whimsical images are based on his old traveling medicine show. Osterman’s work can be found in many collections including the Museum of Fine Art, Houston; The Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City; George Eastman House International Museum of Photography & Film; Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas; Taubman Museum of Art, Roanoke; Michener Museum, Doylestown, PA.

Osterman’s writing and images are featured in the Focal Encyclopedia of Photography, Coming into Focus by John Barnier, The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes by Christopher James, Le Vocabulaire Technique de la Photographie by Anne Cartier-Bresson, and Photographic Possibilities by Robert Hirsch.
